10 TYPES OF ACNE TREATMENTS FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN

Hi beautiful,

Acne is a skin condition that has been plaguing many of us. While there isn’t really a one shot vaccine that you can use to just stop acne in its track there are acne treatment available. You can find most of these treatments except for tretinoin and acutance in drugstore or pharmancies.

Here are 10 types of acne treatment for acne prone skin.

10 types of acne treatment for acne prone skin

1.Retinoid
This is the strong stuff that is prescription in many countries.

The retinoids are forms that are related to vitamin A.  It is use in medicine since it regulates skin cell growth.
Retinol, vitamin A ester, Tretinoin, Tazorac, Adapalene are related to retinoid class.
Adapalene and retinol are available as drugstore skincare products.  Use only a pea size at night and use a sunscreen.

Not scientific proven that it is safe for pregnant mothers or breastfeeding mothers.
A study by U.S. government scientist (2012) suggests that retinyl palmitate may speed the development of skin tumors and lesions when applied in the presence of sunlight.

2. Azelaic acid
Azelaic acid is to calm inflammation and speed up skin turnover minus the pain of retinoid.  I haven't use the western strong version of it.  The one I am using is the Korean skincare products (Alivelab centella powder) which has centella asiatica in it as well.  Gentle and safe for pregnant mothers.  It is one of the acne treatment that is available but not much is talk about but it is a good acne treatment.

Cosrx Bha Blackhead Power Liquid

3. BHA (beta hydroxyl)
The common form is Salicylic Acid. Other forms- betaine salicylate or winter leaf extract are pretty weak.   It is fat soluble.  Recommended for deeper penetration( blackheads and pores problems).  BHA has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
There are many products with BHA in them or mix in drugstore.   The strongest BHA is 2% and it is recommend to not use more than once a day.  Also not recommended for those allergic to aspirin.

4.  AHA (alpha hydroxy acid)
AHAs are water-soluble acids. Common AHAs are glycolic, lactic, malic, tartaric, citric and mandelic.  Ahas helps with skin texture by removing the outer layer of skin so that newer skin will take the place.  It helps with red pigmentation of acne scars and even out the skin.  I do use mandelic acid 5% to 10% for everyday usage.  Glycolic is very much stronger than mandelic acid but it does not mean the stronger the better.

5.  PHA (gluconolactone)
PHA is a polyhydroxy acid.  It is a hydrating, gentle exfoliating ingredient which can also protecting skin from some of the damaging effects of UV radiation. It has the benefits of AHA but being very gentle than most exfoliating acid.  Then again I haven’t use much to talk about this but there are some people that broke out from PHA.

6.  Sulphur
An ingredient used since ancient time to treat skin condition.  Sulfur presents in all living things.  Sulfur has antibacterial effects against the bacteria that cause acne. It is also antifungal so it is also use for  malassezia folliculitis or pityrosporum folliculitis.  It helps treat skin conditions such as seborrhea dermatitis and acne.  It does smell bad to some people.

Benzoyl Peroxide
photo from the Galderma official website

7.  Benzoyl Peroxide
Benzoyl Peroxide is a drying agent to treat mild to moderate acne.  It is usually use with other acne treatment such as topical antibiotic to avoid antibiotic resistant.  On skin, benzoyl peroxide works by reducing the amount of acne-causing bacteria and by causing the skin to dry.  Normally applied on where the acne spots are.  It is not for sensitive and dry skin type.  The strength of dryness depends on the percentage which are  2.5% , 5% and 10% .

I can’t use it though since each time I tried to introduce it, my face just go red and itch.

8.  Topical Antibiotic

Topical antibiotic helps to reduce inflammation and decrease the amount of blocked pores.
Common antibiotic are erythromycin and clindamycin.  These are available as solutions, lotions, gels, and saturated pads.    It is not recommended to use it alone for a prolong period of time since it can cause resistance.  Topical antibiotic is usually used together with benzoyl peroxide to reduce the chance of resistance.

9.  Birth Control
If you are female with hormonal acne.  Dermatologist can suggest you birth control that contain estrogen and progesterone to regulate hormone and prevent acne.  It takes about from few weeks to 2 to 3 months for visible improvement.  However, once you are not on it, your acne will come back for sure.

10.  Natural
Natural does not mean it is going to be gentle and does not mean that it is 100% safe for everyone.

Here are some common ones for treating acne are tea tree, neem, centella asiatica and mugwort.

-Tea tree oil is the most common one for treating acne.  If you are using the oil, please use only a drop and buffer it or mix it with your moisturiser. Applying the oil straight to your skin is going to cause your skin to burn.

Neem
neem

-Neem comes in either oil and the powdered form.  It is not for pregnant mothers.   The oil is from the seed stink&it is only for topical application.  The powder comes from leaves which I mix with toner and applied onto my skin. It doesn't burn but it won't look or smell pretty at night.  The capsules containing powder can also be digested as replacement for birth control pills.  Men can also take it.   The real fresh neem taste really bitter though if you can find it in your country.

-Centella asiatica is one of my favourite ingredients since it is really gentle and use as medicine to speed up healing.  It is called as gotu kola, cica or tiger grass.  If you have the fresh drink, drinking it everyday makes you have beautiful clear skin.  The drink is called Rau Mau in Vietnamese.

I tried drinking it without sugar and it is really bitter so I just like it just on my skin.  It helps to heal and reduce inflammation on your skin.

Mugwort is antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory.  It is gentle and helps to speed healing.  It does have a strong scent if you plan to eat it.

FOOD REVIEW ON TTL HUA DIAO CHINESE WINE CHICKEN NOODLE TAIWAN

Hi foodie,

One of the must try when you are travelling  is food.  Where is the fun if you don't try local food right?

I got this famous noodles from 7 Eleven in Taiwan.  This TTL Hua Diao Chinese Wine Chicken Noodle take the name from the Chinese drunken chicken dish.  This use Hua Diao (花雕) Chinese rice wine.

TTL Hua Diao Chinese Wine Chicken Noodle
TTL Hua Diao Chinese Wine Chicken Noodle

TTL Hua Diao Chinese Wine Chicken Noodle

TTL is a company that is owned by the government of Taiwan and it is also known as Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (臺灣菸酒公司 in Chinese). TTL started in  1898 as the local monopoly buy monopoly itself ended in 2002 when Taiwan joined the World Trade Organization. Now, TTL also produces other items such as crackers, dried fruits and many instant noodles.

Packaging- This one comes in paper noodles bowl with chopstick and simple easy to understand picture of the food. It has everything written in Chinese wording though.  So just make a guess work of real thing.

Inside: There are four sachets inside the noodles.  The paste sachet, the sauce pocuh which contains chicken breast inside, powder sachet and a white packet written with TTL and Chinese wording(the wine), .  It is hygienic and easy since you can just pour hot water into the packet and close it with the chopstick. Then a real meal is easily prepared.  The powder sachet contains goji berries, onions and powder.
The rice wine packet is the most expensive thing in this chicken noodle so don't throw away.  You only pour the rice wine packet after you finish cooking and when you want to serve it.

Review:  The noodles is thin type made of wheat flour noodles which is really nice and has the right texture.  It is neither too soft or too hard which is great.  The broth does smell nice with strong Chinese rice cooking wine.  The chicken is a bit dry since they use breast meat but it really tasted just like fresh cooked chicken.

It is not spicy at all and I do think that this TTL Hua Diao Chinese Wine Chicken Noodle is really nice.  I think it is sure one of the best instant noodles for those that can't eat spicy food and wanting something different.  However, if you are a super picker this is still not bad 😁

FOOD REVIEW: BULDAK SAMYANG HOT CHICKEN FLAVOUR RAMEN STEW TYPE

Hi foodies,

Today review is this Buldak Samyang Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen Stew which I tried out of curiousity.

Samyang Foods, Inc. was established in 1961 produced Korea’s First Ramen in September 1963.  During that time, rice and mixed grains were scarce and so the efforts to overcome the food shortage created Samyang Ramen.

The Hot Chicken stir-fried noodles has become very popular in China.  The representative character is named Hochi.   Their other products are Samayang Ramen, Chacharoni, Kimchi Ramen, Sutah Ramen.  There are some only for export such as YUKGAEJANG 육개장, Samyang Cup Ramen (BEEF), Potato Ramen 감자라면 etc.

The Buldak Extra Spicy Roasted Chicken Ramen has a rating of about 8,000 Scoville Heat Units but it is not the most spicy so I thought this chicken flavor ramen should be okay.  This one is about 4400 SHU.

I mean my level of spiciness is just medium which is about tiki masala or tabasco at around 2,500 SHU or Sriracha at around 2,200 SHU since I just don't enjoy the sweating and feeling my tongue swell up bigger than the size they are.

Packaging: It comes inside a plastic packet written with English wording along with pictures on how to cook it so it is easy to understand.  It is certified Halal.  Inside there is the powder and the sauce.  As this is the stew type, only add in the sauce after done with the cooking.

Review: I was fooled by the look of it. I added all the sauce and powder and so I had instant regret 😭 .  Don't be like me, add in only a bit if you are fearful incase it is too spicy.  I had to choice but to proceed with eating it.  If you could see my face, tears swelling up on my eyes, sweating profusely, my lips and tongue swell up.  I ran over to the fridge and got some milk chocolate and instantly ate that up since I have yogurt or milk stuff.  I also proceed to eat bananas, rice and salted tofu to reduce the damage that it has on my stomach. My stomach hates me because I can feel the 'heat' from it.

Overall, Samyang Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen Stew is not my type of noodles unless your tolerance of spiciness is high.  I think I will just stick to their mild version Kimchi flavour  which is available on Amazon from now on.  I prefer their mild version noodles better.

A DAY IN MY LIFE DURING WEEKENDS

Hi beauties,

I talked about a day in my life on my working days HERE so here is another one during my weekends which has more details on my off day.  I don't live in a fancy housing area so here is just some simple life that I have and do.

A DAY IN MY LIFE DURING WEEKENDS

I enjoy my off day very much since I could relax and not worry about being late to work.  I have more time to sleep and don't have to stick to a particular schedule or be late to work.
The worries of being late to work is just stressful to me.

I also showed you what is inside my skincare closet. Sorry I ended it before I opened all the way of the door last time.  I am afraid of showing it actually. 😂

During weekends, I can just enjoy the moment of being able to live my life. Remember to always take time to recharge and have time for yourself.  Let me know if there are more things you will like to know about me.

The diffuser is actually from Kmall, a Korean site for online shopping back up by the Korean government.

No product review here.  However, the opinions expressed here are my own and honest as always.

RED VELVET IRENE PYSCHO MAKEUP TUTORIAL

Hi beautiful,

I keep hearing Red Velvet Psycho songs everywhere so when I checked out the music videos, I saw the Irene makeup which is just so beautiful.  So here is an inspired take on Red Velvet Irene psycho makeup with my lousy skill 😂 for hooded eyes like mine.

Besides I look nothing like her at all so it is not a transformation look.  I used asian makeup beauty items except for one items.

Red Velvet Irene psycho makeup

From her music video, her eyeshadows are actually orangey kind of colour.  Her makeup artist mixed two types of shimmer for eyelids.  as for her lip, her makeup artist actually use an orange colour from M.A.C but since I don't have it, I use coral.  Her blush also match her lips which has orange hint in it.

Hi beautiful,

Description:
Minimal Ingredients
A hypoallergenic cleanser that can be used daily for sensitive skin.
Exfoliate Activator- Contains vegetable enzymes(papain and rice) that help in keratinization.
Contains nutrient-rich beta-glucan&yeast extract, keeps skin moist after washing.
A granular powder that easily dissolves in water to form a smooth and rich foam.

Usage:
Daily
1. place about 1 gram in a wet palm.
2. Rubs hands together to create bubbles, massage gently on face and then rinse with lukewarm water.

Exfoliate Pack (once a week)
1. After cleasing face, place about 3 grams in the pack bowl.
2. Lightly moisten pack brush with lukewarm water, then stir to make a soft foam.
3. Apply all over the face, except eyes and mouth, using a pack brush to thicken the foam.
4. After 5 minutes, rinse the foam with lukewarm water.

Ingredients:
Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sulfate, Sodium Palmitate, Sodium Lauroyl Aspartate, Diglycerin, Titanium Dioxide, Allantoin, Maltodextrin, Papain, Beta-Glucan, Aspergillus/Rice Ferment Filtrate, Yeast Extract, Silica, Saccharomyces/Viscum Album (Mistletoe) Ferment Extract, Saccharomyces/Imperata Cylindrica Root Ferment Extract, Lactobacillus/Soybean Ferment Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil

Packaging: The white plastic bottle is really very well made with a really tight cap to make sure it won’t ever leak. Simple white design too. You can squeeze the bottle for dispensing the products that you want.

Ingredients:  Paraben free, silicone free, Eu allergen free,  not sulfate free, two fungal-acne trigger, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and Aspergillus/Rice Ferment Filtrate.   The first ingredient is corn starch that is okay since it is in cleanser.  It is not fungal safe but since cleanser doesn't stay on the skin longer than 1minute, it won't do anything to harm your skin.  It does have hydrating ingredients which makes not irritating during cleansing.   There is acne fighting ingredient as the tea tree oil but not sure if it is going to do much since it is inside a cleanser but sometimes short contact works for sensitive skin.

Texture: The cleansing powder is very fine  and more like dust. It has pH of 5.5. It doesn’t smell anything strong to be honest. At most it has light scent of rice. Lathering up the powder into soft foam is easy.

Review: I like this powder cleanser. It is gentle enough to clean non waterproof makeup without irritating my skin.  It is non irritating and suitable as morning cleanser as well.  I will probably buy it again in the future.

Overall, Petitfee B-Glucan Enzyme Powder Wash is a travel friendly gentle ph5.5 cleanser for acne prone skin.

Pureforet centella Multi lotion is packed with skin-saving properties, especially when it comes to the summer months! With Centella Asiatica and Willow Bark Extract, your skin will feel soothed and smooth.

Ingredients:
Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, 1,2- Hexanediol, RH-Oligopeptide-1(1ppm), Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Isopropyl Myristate, Polysorbate 80, Tocopheryl Acetate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Scutellaria Baiacalensis Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Allantoin, Lecithin, Sodium Polyacrylate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Carbomer, Arginine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salicylic Acid, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Disodium EDTA, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Centella

Packaging:  It is in dark plastic pump bottle which is really convenient.  The box do have ingredients written in English. This packaging is the old packaging. New packaging is more colourful.

Ingredients: It is paraben free, sulfate free, silicone free, alcohol free, Eu allergen free but it is not Fungal Acne Safe though.  It does contain centella asiatica leaf water as the first ingredients. The willow bark, tea tree and salicylic acid are for treating acne.  Other ingredeints such as camellia oil, hyaluronic acid and vitamin E oil are for hydrating.  There are some essential oil such as lavender which can be sensitive to people.

Texture:  The opaque lotion has lotion watery texture which is really good for summer and people with oily skin but needs hydration.  The scent of lavender is okay for me.  It doesn't stay long on the skin.

Review:  I do like the light watery texture of this lotion that absorbs well without leaving sticky feeling on my combination acne prone skin.  As for the effectiveness of this moisturiser, it does help if you have mild acne but on more moderate acne and stubborn type of acne like me, please do use a spot treatment or serum. Relying on moisturiser to do the job of treating acne might not be enough.

Overall, Pureforet centella Multi lotion is a light moisturiser for combination or oily acne prone skin type.

Review: This cleanser comes in bottle and it is really great for travelling.  Just add a little bit to the powder for cleanser.  I don't mind that it doesn't foam.  It have faint of earthy strawberry.  The cleanser is gentle and calming to the skin.  I find it easier to use it as a mask .  It reduces irritation and redness on the skin if you use it as mask.  I like it because of the help with acne, the colloidal oatmeal is a proven ingredient with science that reduce skin flare up applied topically.

Review: The ceramide bottle is very elegant and beautiful.  Lindo oil is made for acne prone to reduce the severity of acne, balances oil production, hydrate the skin and soften the skin. The yellow orange oil uses squalane which has balances oil production, hydrate the skin and contains anti-aging properties with anti-inflammatory to help with skin conditions such as acne and eczema.  I use two drops each time so the bottle last pretty long.  It absorbs easily to the skin and helps to control my skin oilness on my T-zone.  My skin looks glowing and healthy.

Review: This bottle of mist is fine and smells really nice with its bulgarian rose scent.  It does hydrate my skin and keeps it hydrated throughout the day.  Being in  mist form is convenient too.  It is easy to carry hydrating toner around too.  Use a rose hydrating mist instead of using plain water since plain water only dry the skin more and cause skin imbalance later. Rose oil also has antiseptic propreties which is good for skin.

Orgga Jade Dual-sided Face Roller
Orgga Jade Dual-sided Face Roller

Orgga Jade Dual-sided Face Roller
For all skin type
Ingredients: Jade stone
Review: I do like using this Jade face roller because it feels cooling on the face especially on hot days.  It does have the gua sha feeling on the face and reduce the puffiness on face caused by water retention in the morning.  My face does feel firmer with everday usage.  It is said to help with the lymphatic drainage so do use with the guidance on how to get the best out of this face roler.  Overall for me It is easy to use to smooth out the sheet masks too. As for benefits such as adding skin elasticity, I probably need more time to see results.

Overall, Orgga basic set Lindo is a great choice for someone just starting to use skincare for acne prone. The selection of products are really on point.  As for my favourite, I think it is the Bacca Bliss Daily Cleansing Powder and Orgga LINDO Luxe Beauty Oil.
