SKINCARE TIPS: HOW TO CHOOSE SKINCARE PRODUCTS FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN

HOW TO CHOOSE SKINCARE PRODUCTS FOR ACNE PRONE SKIN

It has been sometimes since I write about skincare tips and here I am back with another post on how to choose product for acne prone skin.

I am a skincare junkie and yes I love skincare products more than makeup =). I am not good in makeup, lazy and I think having a good skin is better than having the best concealer in the world.

Whenever I am in Kuala Lumpur, I would sure visit Sephora but now we can also order the products online through Zalora website . \ ^ v ^ /  How amazing is that???  My friends love Sephora eyeliner because they are cheap and it is really nice considering the price.  Oh, let go back to the skincare tips =)  .

1. First of all, know your skin type. It might be dry with acne , oily with acne or combination with acne. Do not assume that everyone has the same skin type.

2. Check your age. Acne products that works for adult is not the same as the acne products for teenagers as the skin built is not the same. Look for brands that cater to certain age.

3. Use a good simple cleanser for your skin. The Koreans follow the double cleaning method which is use oil cleanser first follow by the foam cleanser. Or you could use cleansing water which is also very popular for oily skin.  Treat your skin like a baby.

4. Then after lotion/toner, applied the essence or moisturizer.

5. Apply eye cream to reduce the stress around the eyes and prolong your youth.

SEPHORA&ZALORA

6. Do pore cleansing mask and then sheet mask to reduce the flare up. Most Korean do “A sheet mask A day” and it does help but since I don’t have deep pockets, I can’t do that every day. Choose the mask for acne/sensitive/trouble/blemishes and ingredients such as green tea, honey and hydrating ones.

I think that is some simple skincare tips on choosing products for acne prone skin.  If there is anything that you would like to know, feel free to let me know at the comment section.

REVIEW ON EGYPTIAN MAGIC ALL PURPOSE SKIN CREAM

About Egyptian Magic
Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream "The People's Choice" is new to your market. It is a phenomenal healing balm with legendary powers due to its unique mixture of all natural ingredients derived only from living plants and organisms. Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream "The People's Choice" has been on the market since August 1991 with a solid track record, a loyal word of mouth following, and twice the healing power for half the price of conventional skin creams.

This is a products that everyone rave about and it is a favourite among so many celebrities.  I personally will approach it will a skeptical eyes as I don't really believe if there is something that works for everything.  Well, the word MAGIC does gets my attention.

The texture is just like balm and it will turn into oil if rub a few times.  It smell of olive oil and of petroleum jelly.  It is bearable but I don't think everyone will find the smell pleasing.  I find it really moisturising to my lips and it cure my chapped skin.  My lips always cracked as usual but applying this prevent it and my lips is really moisturise throughout the day.  Since it is only 3ml, I am not sure how it will fair for my acne prone skin.  I get about 2 application out of 3ml and I realise that it doesn't break me out but I think my pimples is still there.  I guess it is because I have really stubborn pimples and it only works with certain medication meant for cystic acne.

It works as a good makeup primer for dry skin. The skin would be really moisturise and not dry when applied makeup.  I heard that it works for rashes and also for sunburnt skin =).  I guess because there is high content of olive oil in it =).

Products retails RM5 at 3ml , RM75 at 59ml  and Rm125 at 128ml at Natta Cosme

REVIEW ON MENTHOLATUM LIPICE COLOR GLOSS SWEET BEAN

click the photo for bigger view

I always like using Mentholatum lipice range.  I still do miss the packaging of the lavender water lipice many years ago.  For a person like me who couldn't live without anything to moisturise my lips, lipice was my first encounter of beauty products before many comes into my life.  I always need a lipbalm for chapped lips.

The colour is actually very light pink to the point of transparent but it smell like strawberry and doesn't leave a taste inside my mouth.  I don't have to use lip balm when I have this with me.  Besides, I like to just apply directly to my lips as my fingers will contain a lot of bacteria after touching so many things.

It is moisturising but the lipgloss will disappear fast too.  However, the moisturise do last.  Other than that, this is a good cheap lip gloss.  You can use it with lip tint for those Korean gradient lips which is a hit now.

Products retails at Rm12.90 . Available at the Guardian, Watson and other local pharmancies.

MY DAY AND NIGHT SKINCARE PRODUCTS

For the past many years I had been trying so many products mainly from drugstore.  Yeah, Watsons and Guardian is my favourite places to shop for them.   I will never fail to buy each time I got into Watsons and my wallet will just cry each time.  Well, I had bad skin and so I keep on looking for the “magic potion” to cure them.  Recently, I tone down the amount of products I use as I finally have found some of my favourites.

To share, I have combination (normal on cheeks + oily on T-zone), acne prone and sensitivity.  Most people misunderstand that sensitivity means sensitive to certain chemical ingredients.  My sensitivity is hereditary.  Not only do i breakout or flushed because of certain chemicals, i also turned red easily when i am shy or feeling hot.  My skin is naturally thinner than normal people and this can't be fix.  Even some natural and organic products can make me flare up with redness all over.

Normally, if I go for facial analysis, the beautician will either ignore the fact that I have sensitive skin or ignore that I have acne prone skin and not see my skin as overall.  That is one reason I avoid “facial” now.  By right, I wanted to see a good dermatologist but I took matters into my own hands and luckily nothing bad happened to me.  I wouldn't say my skin is super duper fantastic but it is the best I have after this 10 years of battling acne.

My morning/day skincare routine

1.Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
I raved about this a few times.  It calms down my sensitive skin and doesn’t dry out my cheeks.  Just that it is not enough for my t-zone.  I find that I couldn't use cleanser meant for combination or oily skin as they tend to dry my skin too much. However, don’t expect this to clear up the acne or pimples you have.  Since it moisturize my skin, I can even skip on moisturiser.  I heard that not everyone suits this cleanser but it works on me. Review here

2.La Roche Posay Anthelios 60
It is super ultra light sunscreen that is really just like the light lotion.  It is expensive but worth the money spend.  I bought mine from the strawberrynet.com  and it is my most expensive sunscreen ever.  This is my daily sunscreen because this doesn’t contain physical blocker( zinc ozide or titanium oxide) which clogged my pores.  I prefer chemical sunscreen as they don't have the white residue that make me white. However, i do use physical blocker type of sunscreen if i am going out swimming at the sea.  Review here

3.*Mycin clindamycin (optional)
Opps, i forgot the mycin picture but you can check the photo from my review on it.  This is the antibiotic I use when I have breakout.  I am not suppose to use this everyday as the bacteria may just get immune to it and it won’t work anymore.  Make sure that the skin is dry before applying too. Just spot treat it.  As I am aging into my late 20s, my skin couldn’t handle the benzoyl peroxide.  Benzoyl peroxide dry my skin and left big painful marks on me and the acne still wouldn't disappear. Review here

4.Lipbalm/Mentholatum lip ice sheer colour/Kose Q10 pure medicated UV cut
Lipbalm is a must as my lips will chap like crazy since it is always so dry.  I tried quite a few and still find mentholatum one of the best.  Some leave a weird taste on my tongue and i don't like it.  The Kose Q10 i bought it in my sasa haul last year and it was quite cheap. About RM3 and it is scent free and taste free.  Just that it is not so moisturising.

Since my skin is sensitive, i can't use too many skincare products or do the fantastic skincare 'layering' on my skin.  My skin will just flare up or get clogged easily.  Besides, applying those serum will just get "wasted" on my skin since sensitive skin like mine would not be able to absorb anything or they might worsen my current skin state.  I have to wait until the skin calm down.

Night skincare routine

1.Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
I use this too at night. Sometimes, I use the Tebe lavish soap when I am bathing and forget about carrying the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser into the bathroom.  I don't makeup and i use sunscreen which is not waterproof.  So, no worries about not cleansing enough.

2.*Mycin clindamycin (optional)
Only on areas with break out.

3.Senka Hoshitsu Lotion S
This is all in one moisturizer and it is really light and provides enough moisture to my skin. I am using the one for combination to oily skin.  I applied this all over my face but avoided the area with breakouts. Review here

4. Vaseline
To moisturise my dry lips.  I didn't review this though.  Maybe next time.

My night routine is really simple and I am only using my own bare hand to wash my face. It actually works fine although I want to try the Clarisonic too > <   .  For the mean time, I couldn't do the layering for fearing that my skin would have ‘angry’ acne popping up again.

My acne is mostly at my cheeks and a friend told me that it is due to hormone imbalance. I guess it can’t be help and what I can do is try to ‘tune’ it by sleeping enough, eat balance food and exercise.

Besides the daily skincare I usually use aspirin mask, mud mask, blemish mask and natural DIY mask (tomato mask and lemon mask) twice weekly. I don’t really like the egg mask since it is smelly and sticky. I am not really a fan of sheet masks for the reason they are always too big on my face. I don’t use scrub, whitening and ageing products temporarily. Yeah, of course I wanted to brighten my face that has freckles but unfortunately I can't. I will venture into anti ageing products soon as I am already in my late 20s.  I avoided eye cream since the last serious allergic I had last year. I am kind of paranoid to try eye cream and may have to go through the "pain" again. Let's just say my eye bags is there but i can't do anything about it for the moment.

My bare face before going to sleep.  This is my current skin now. Not edited.  Hopefully it doesn't creep you out. > <

My skincare products will change again in a few months time since I like to stray. I am still tweaking and trying the Biotherm Pure.fect.

Mind sharing your skincare day and night skincare products with me?  Who knows i might find some gems hidden.

REVIEW ON BURT'S BEES LIP SHIMMER STRAWBERRY

If you a person who is paranoid about having something chemical on your lips, then maybe you should try Burt's Bees Lip range.  Their products are 100% natural.  Lips shimmer provides lipbalm effect on the lips plus colour and shimmering effect on the lips.  They have a lot flavour to choose from. Strawberry is one of their newest range.

The colour of Burt's bees Lip Shimmer Strawberry-pale strawberry

As i got it from the post, i think the heat from the process of delivering had cause some defect to the lip balm.
T_T  .  I couldn't put it back inside the stick.  So, i had to put the lip balm into the container.  Luckily nothing else happened.  The name Strawberry is based on the colour of the lip shimmer and not the taste.  It is natural pink and the shimmer is just nice.  It won't make one look like a having a diamond on the lips.  It would suits everyone and is a daily colour.  One can layer it to achieve more shimmer and colour.

I love the minty and cooling feeling of the lip shimmer that lasted for about 30 minutes.  It is also moisturising on the lips.  Just that the colour doesn't last long.  Well, i don't expect that from any lipbalm unless they really put in some permanent colour that may stain or be dangerous to our health.  If you lick it, there is some sweet taste but i don't like the aftertaste of the lip shimmer on my tongue.

Here is some photos of me with the lip shimmer-strawberry.

Overall, i think that the colour is not that amazing but it suitable for nude makeup or to pair up with smokey eyes or even daily use.  Sorry cause i do not put up any makeup(not even bb cream) so i think i just look "normal" with this lip shimmer.

RM34.80 for 2.6g

REVIEW ON ETUDE HOUSE SWEET RECIPE CUPCAKE ALL OVER COLOR BLUEBERRY CHEESE CAKE

Korean products are known for their very pretty packaging with affordable price and cuteness especially Etude House.  Personally, i had never tried Etude House products before.  I only get to know about Korean products when someone rave about them to me at point of time( the The Faceshop Raspberry Roots and Laneige).  Still, i do not like to buy items from the counters for some reasons.  I still prefer drugstore or Sephora where i can see, check and test everything to my heart content. However, that doesn't stop me from wanting to know about Korean products.

This is from the sweet Recipe where everything resembles A Sweet Cupcakes Shop.  I was intrigued by this cute 3 in 1 cupcakes when i see this online.  The name itself is like mouthful.  So, when i got this blueberry cheese cake that looks really pink with a hint of blue, i was ecstatic.  In the past, i had only tried Elianto products.  So, the cupcake itself smell much like blueberry cheesecake which was one of my favourite dessert but not exactly the same.  I guess it is hard to duplicate the smell of cheese into makeup.

So, here is the photo of the  ETUDE HOUSE SWEET RECIPE CUPCAKE ALL OVER COLOR BLUEBERRY CHEESE CAKE
inside the plastic

without the plastic cover

Top view

the colour is pinkish blue

this is with just cupcake all over color blueberry cheese cake.  It is pink.

I tried it on my lips and it looks bluish pink on me.  I look quite pale with this colour on my lips.  The balm turned to powder the moment it touches my lip.  I have to apply so many layer of lip balm before and after on my lip and still the colour run to my lips creases.  It only look better after tinting it with a colour lipgloss but i didn't show it here.  Overall, i don't suggest one to apply it on the lip unless you have super hydrated lips.  My lip chaps too easily even with just lipstick.  The cupcake colour also doesn't last long on the lips.  It disappeared the moment i eat.

me with the blueberry cheese cake on lips, cheek and eye shadow

The colour makes it good for eyeshadow and also blusher.  For eyeshadow, do apply primer first as the colour fade off fast with oily lids like mine.  The pinkish blusher makes it good for Gyaru, cute makeup or makeup for Barbie.  It also provide a healthy glow to the skin and last long without fading.

So, for the prices, i would say that it only works as a blush and eyeshadow.   I think it is hard to make one makeup product that works on the lips, cheek and also eyes as the skin at these area are different.  Again, who wouldn't want to just just carry that one makeup products that works for all since it really save space and weight for travelling.

REVIEW ON THE SMURFS STRAWBERRY LIP BALM

Looking at the cute smurfs, i just do want to open it but i really chapped lips and this just arrived on the right time since i am in need of lipbalm.  If Korean like to bring mist around, i am the type that need many lip balms.  I just can't stand my chapped and ugly lips.

Smurfs is one of the cartoon i had watched when i was a kid and had read their comics although i couldn't really comprehend much of their jokes cause my English was so bad then.  Nevertheless the cartoon is really cute and they are blue.  Blue is my favourite colour since it is the colour of the ocean and sky.

There is clear direction on the back for those first time user.  I am totally clueless what is a lipbalm when i was in secondary school.  The first three ingredients are oleyl alcohol, petrolatum, microcrystalline wax.  These ingredients are very moisturizing for the lips but can clogged if you accidentally apply on the side of the lips.

You will need to twist the cap and break the seal.  Then remove the seal which actually the sticker written with "sealed for protection".  The content of the lip balm is baby pink.  It smell of those bubblegum strawberry too.  If you lick it (which is not recommended) , you will notice that it is sweet.  However, it left me with an uncomfortable feeling at my tongue.

Overall, it is much moisturising than the Kose Pure Medicated Moisture Lip UV cut which i haul in my Sasa shopping last year.  I just don't like strawberry flavour much and the after taste it will leave inside my mouth.

It is disributed by Lotta Luv.  The products are made in Taiwan.

I love all the products specially chosen for me *LOVE*  .

Bloop Marine 4-In-1 Pure Aloe Vera Gel (35g), twistband and Jelly Pong Pong Gloss Bon Bon Lip Gloss & Cheek Cream Blusher

This is twistband and not a scrunchy.  They are made of soft elastic, thicker than regular hair ties and don’t leave marks in your hair.  Some people use them to adorn their wrists.  I love bright orange colour like this ^^.  i wanted them for a looooooooooooooooong time and they really sent in for my first box ^^.  I love it so much ^^.  The twistband really doesn't leave a dent like those rubber band and scrunchies do.  Their ranging price are from RM 16 to RM28 in a packet of three.  Made in US

Bloop Marine 4-In-1 Pure Aloe Vera Gel (35g)

I will do a review on this soon after reading that it will help to look younger longer and help my sensitive skin. ^^.  Besides, i heard a lot about this Australian brand.  I always stock up aloe vera as it is really useful ^^.
RM28 for 35g.  Made in Australia.

REVIEW ON KISS ME X CHUPA CHUPS LIP GLOSS

KISS ME X CHUPA CHUPS LIP GLOSS PUDDING
Kawai right?  So cute that i just got to try it.This is pudding flavour

I was so happy to receive gift from Kiss Me Malaysia.  Their products are really pretty ^^ and kawai.  Yeah, moreover it is from Japan and the Princess adorn the products.  Yes, no matter how old you are, you can still be a princess.  That is why i love girly products ^^

Alright, lets move to one of the products ^^.  It is the Chupa Chups lipgloss.  I was figuring out what is this and someone told me this is eyeshadow???  Everything is in Japanese and i can't understand a single word .
> <

There is actually a series of this lip products, some lip balms (in pots) and lip gloss.  It is the collaboration between Kiss Me and Chupa Chups and  they are limited edition.

The lip balm comes in Fresh Green Apple , Cola, Pudding, Strawberry Cream, and Cherry. The lip gloss comes in Mango x Kiwi x Pineapple, Melon Soda, Strawberry Cream, Cherry, Caramel and Grape.

So, that is why i keep wondering about my lipgloss.  I guess this is really limited edition as the one i got is the Chupa Chups pudding which comes in form of a lip gloss instead of balm.  =)  No wonder i was unable to find the name of the flavour and the hint is only the picture of pudding around the Chupa Chups logo.  =P

really look like Chupa Chups

KISS ME X CHUPA CHUPS LIP GLOSS PUDDING
This is the stick applicator.quite easy to use

Before using the lipgloss.  nothing on lip.  Sorry for the dry lip.  My lips is not beautiful.=(
.
This after using the lipgloss. ^^

Overall, the lasting power is quite long.  It stick to my lip even when i drink or eat.  Smell really like pudding but tasteless in reality.  So i do not feel like licking it.  Even after licking it is still there. I usually use lipgloss at the bottom of my lip as my lips is really big and thick  > <  .  It is good if you are the type like me who doesn't like to keep reapplying.

The colour is really light- almost invisible peach.  I think it does plump up the lip but i couldn't find any ingredients online.  So sorry for that.

I heard that it is RM29.90 in Watson.  I am not sure whether if they are still there.
