Hi beautiful people,
I think many of us Malaysian dread to go to dermatologists unless it is actually severe acne. There are some that just go to dermatologist because they have one pimple on their face which is rare.
Here is how it is going to dermatologists for acne in Malaysia. I wrote about the cost in money, the dermatologists and the medicine.
Here is the youtube version if you prefer watching animated video.
Public hospitals do not entertain acne or pimples problem since you are not going to die so you have to go to a private hospital or private clinic.
Dermatologists are doctors that give you medicine for your skin.
They are not cosmetic chemist so they don't know products formulation. Just like any other professions there are good and bad doctors.
1. The wait
You can do appointment and wait 3hours if you have a famous dermatologist. Since it is full of people generally you get about 5-10minutes to see them. So, prepare your question before hand. Probably 1 or 2 questions.
Most clinic will also have you fill in a form about your allergies, personal details and some skincare products.
2. The dermatologist
Depending on dermatologist some will just draw and write on a piece of paper which has a face. Then you picked up the medicine from the nurse who will tell you how to use those medicine, products and you pay money. Dermatologist are supposed to inform you if they are going to give you stuff such as accutance because you have to avoid getting pregnant and get blood test for it.
3. The medicine
Some of the oral prescription they give you is not available outside. On the other hand, the topical prescription given to you are all available outside in the pharmancies but you won't get to see the packaging since they want you to go back to them and pay like extra 50% .
4. The price.
Be prepared with RM50-150 to see them. This is just to see them for 5min.
Medicine is counted separately. Depending on what, they will make you go back to them every two months for the medicine. So another RM100-RM400
Skincare. RM350-RM1000 This is if your dermatologist have their own curated skincare which they put inside your bill or they give you the option to buy outside
Medical procedures- RM200 to RM1000 per procedure depending on what type of product. Normally you have to buy a course if it is laser for acne scarings. So a course is going to cost you about RM7000.
So overall minimum prepare to spend from RM150 to RM1000 in the visit.
So overall is it better to go to dermatologists? I would say go to one with a good track record I guess? I mean it is better than trying to heal your own skin via buying lots of skincare products when you don't really know much.
Not sponsored in any way and just honest opinion. This is just my opinion on many dermatologists that my friends went. However, the opinions expressed here are my own and honest as always.
