Hi foodies,
Malaysia is full with varieties of food and when you are in a country like these, it is hard not to gain weight. Here a review on the popular steamed bun place to eat in Tanjung Sepat called Mr.Black.
It is one of the very popular and hyped up place that people go for the bun in Malaysia after it was featured in the Malaysian popular eating program. Honestly, it was so highly raved up by people so out of curiosity I just have to try it out.
First of all, do not bring food from the outside to eat inside this place as you will get charged. It doesn't matter if you are paying for their drinks or other things.
This Mr. Black Hand-Made Pau that I went is the second outlet and not the main one.
梅菜包 Mr. Black Hand-Made Pau 小黑手工包点 in this shop is pretty small and only fit about 3 tables and the tables are pretty near each other. Tables are so small and not really comfortable to sit around.
Service is very fast when they are taking the order. The food comes in about 15minutes later depending on what you order. The menu comes written in only Chinese Characters so if you cannot read Chinese it is hard since the shop only cater to Chinese. However, when it comes to paying, you have to go the counter yourself as they seems to just ignore my hand no matter how many times I raised my hand.
As for the environment, honestly I don't think it is hygienic as there are so many house flies flying around and the lady boss seems to just ignore it.
Let's talk about the food item. There aren't many selection in this shop since their star food is bun. Other than bun they have nasi lemak which is price from RM 4 to RM6.50. Mr. Black pride themselves as handmade bun. In my opinion, it is only handmade at the last procedure which is putting in the filling inside the famous bun. The rest are all done by using machine and oven.
Anyway, do not order the expensive Lo Mai gai (steamed glutinous rice with chicken) because it is too sticky to the point of feeling icky, the chicken is very tiny, the rice is laden with too much black pepper powder and it is very small for the price.
Braised Preserved Mustard steamed bun (Mui Choy) 梅菜 包 is their most famous bun here. The bun consist of only preserved mustard with no pork or anything else. It is not salty and the amount of filling is okay. The bun is okay. The bun is pure white which I suspect something but then I shall not say anything since I might get murdered or sued later for this. I am just a poor blogger with no 'powder' for anything.
I ordered black beans soya and it is just okay. The cup is those beer cup and the taste is just average. It is in fact slightly thin since it is mixed with lots of ice to thin down the drink. It does have a slight scent of soya beans.
Overall, 梅菜包 Mr. Black Hand-Made Pau 小黑手工包点 is just a place I went all because it was so much hyped up by people. I wouldn't want to go there again probably because of the flies flying around and just average buns. The price of the bun is okay. (not cheap and not expensive)

Fried pork bun fried 叉燒包 get charged extra RM0.50 for being fried so it depends on you. The size is the same of the usual bun. The filling is the usual pork inside which is nothing exceptional. What is nice is the crispy outside and the soft inside of the bun without any oiliness. This is one of the bun that one can try but don't have sky high expectation.
