What is retinoid?
retinoids is an umbrella term for derivatives of vitamin A.
retinoic acid which are prescription level drugs such as tretinoin, tazarotene and adapalene.
Over the counter (OTC) products usually contain retinol which is a weaker form.
There is also retinyl palmitate which is combination of retinol and the fatty acid palmitic acid.
Retinoids are “cell communicating” ingredients. They “tell” healthier, younger skin cells to make their way to the surface of the skin faster. This is called cell turnover. The increase in skin cell turnover helps our pores stay clear and increases collagen production which make skin younger.
That is why people called it HG for anti aging.
There are also tretinoin is gel, cream and lotion with different percentage. Cream can cause clogged pores while gel can be more drying.
